8位微控制器：
实时时钟跟踪日期和时间,其中包括世纪、年、月、小时、分和秒。许多实时时钟包括电源倒换电路,这样在发生掉电时仍能准确计时。实时时钟的其他计时功能包括警报、看门狗,以及支持高精度要求的校准寄存器。实时时钟的可选功能包括监控功能,如上电复位/低压检测、早期电源故障警告、电池监控等。通过提供面向外部低功率SRFAM的电池倒换和写保护功能,有些部件（如M41ST85 Non-Volatizor）可以用作NVRAM 监控器。
ST风靡市场的串行实时时钟支持SPI和I2C总线,采用封装包括QFN16和TSSOP8以及搭载可卸载/可换电池的SNAPHAT 。
